More info
The Traxxas Maxx Slash® is an electric short course truck that arrives fully assembled and ready to race (RTR). Traxxas rates it skill level 4.
Motor and power system
Power comes from the Velineon® VXL-4s Brushless Power System, which uses a sensorless brushless electric motor. The motor is a 4-pole 2000 Kv unit. It weighs 14.32 oz (406 g), measures 2.97 inches (76 mm) long and is 1.65 inches (42 mm) in diameter. A 5 mm output shaft carries the power out. The motor has Traxxas 6.5 mm bullet connectors and a finned can for better heat dissipation. A Fixed-Mesh Motor Cradle supports the entire motor length and reduces flex for longer gear life.
Speed control
The speed control is the waterproof VXL-6s™, a brushless unit. Case size is 2.28” (58 mm) x 2.83” (72 mm) x 1.81” (46 mm), and it weighs 7.30 oz (207 g). It is 6s LiPo compatible. Battery connectors are Traxxas High-Current Connectors. Also on the speed control:
- Integrated cooling fan
- Real-time telemetry via Traxxas Link™
- 3-LED status indicators
- Powered accessory ports
- 10-gauge silicone wire
- Integrated protection circuits
Radio system and stability management
The radio is the TQi™ Traxxas Link™ enabled 2.4 GHz High Output system with a TSM® receiver. Its TQi transmitter has 2 channels. A 2.4 GHz 5-channel micro receiver adds fail-safe security and integrated telemetry ports. The system automatically stores and loads settings for up to 30 Traxxas Link-enabled models. Just switch on and drive, because model selection is not required.
A programmable Multi-Function knob sits on the transmitter. You can adjust steering and throttle percentage (dual rates), sensitivity (exponential) and end points.
Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) improves straight line acceleration and braking on low-traction surfaces. TSM never dulls throttle or slows the truck. You adjust it from off to 100% assistance from the transmitter.
Drivetrain
The truck has full-time shaft-driven 4-wheel drive with a single speed transmission. A Torque-Biasing Center Drive absorbs shocks and distributes power, and its housing is aluminum. Differentials are sealed, hardened steel bevel, limited slip and silicone fluid-filled, with large module ring and pinion gears.
Internal gear ratio is 11.38:1, and gear pitch is 1.0 metric pitch. Both the pinion and spur gear are steel. The drivetrain also has a heavy-duty Cush Drive™, Steel-Core hybrid telescoping driveshafts and a splined aluminum center driveshaft. Sealed in the chassis, the driveline keeps out dirt and grit.
Chassis and battery bay
The chassis is a modular low-CG composite design. Its extended modular layout interlocks with the front and rear bulkheads. The chassis absorbs and distributes impact energy, and molded-in hex reinforcements run along its flat surfaces. Components are easy to service and access.
A large battery compartment closes with a secure snap-lock battery door. It measures 181 mm x 56 mm x 45 mm. The truck accepts a single 6700 mAh 4-cell LiPo battery or dual 5000 mAh 3s LiPo batteries. Batteries sit protected deep in the chassis. Battery retention is more secure than conventional retention systems.
Body
The clipless body eliminates body posts and clips. It offers quick and secure installation and removal. Managed airflow improves high-speed stability. A rigid internal frame and additional nerf bar side support hold the shape. Molded reinforcements give the body tear-through protection.
Steering
The steering servo is a 2090 digital high-torque waterproof unit, large-scale and high-output. It delivers 285 oz-in of torque with a 0.18 sec transit speed. A triangulated mounting system fully supports the servo case. The steering bellcranks are heavy-duty double-shear parts.
Suspension and shocks
The suspension arms are heavy duty double-shear parts. Their tough composite formula resists impact damage, even in cold weather. The suspension is engineered to optimize suspension travel and steering angles. All critical suspension points have double shear strength. Pivot balls are steel, and C-hub and steering block geometry maximizes steering angle. Camber and toe links are fixed and high-strength. The upper and lower tie bars are steel.
The shocks are GT-Maxx® units with:
- Machined aluminum threaded body
- Extra-large bore and capacity
- Large-diameter damper shaft
- Lower seal cartridge with dual X-rings
- Adjustable upper spring retainer
- Plastic shock caps with pivot balls
- Lower spring perches bolted on
Bumpers, wheels and tires
Heavy duty energy absorbing bumpers protect the front and rear. Lower skids resist impact and abrasion at both ends. Integrated nerf bars resist side impacts. An adjustable wheelie bar has an integrated carry handle.
Tough dual-profile wheels have a keyed 17 mm hex receptor. The large 5.3″ Maxx SC belted tires limit tire expansion for game-changing performance. They have 1-piece foam inserts and are pre-glued and ready for action.
Size and weight
The truck weighs 10.34 pounds (4.69 kg). It measures 26.5 inches (674 mm) long and 9.64 inches (245 mm) high on a 15.5 inches (394 mm) wheelbase. Width, front track and rear track are each 14.3 inches (363 mm). Center ground clearance is 1.54 inches (39 mm).
Before you buy
The truck reaches 70+ mph with dual 3s LiPo batteries and an optional pinion gear, which are sold separately.
