More info
This is the Kyosho Mini-Z RWD MR-04 readyset MAZDA SAVANNA RX-7 (SA22C) "1979 DAYTONA GTU CLASS WINNER No.7". Built on the Mini-Z RWD / MR-04 platform, the car is ready to run. Right out of the box, it delivers the full experience of high-performance R/C car racing.
At 1/28 scale, this is an authentic small-scale R/C car. It is an electric mini on-road car with 2WD and a renewed chassis at its core. The small scale of the Mini-Z Racer suits driving indoors. Easier control makes the MR-04 a good introduction to R/C cars for people just getting familiar with them.
The car has a factory assembled chassis and a pre-painted hard plastic body. Decals are applied, and the body is finished to display model standard. The chassis is mounted with the R/C system.
The real car behind the model
The first-generation Mazda RX-7 made its mark at the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona in 1979. Its debut brought a victory in the GTU class. The 1979 Daytona RX-7 was modified to IMSA regulations. It featured front and rear spoilers along with oversized fenders to boost performance.
The MR-04 chassis
The MR-04 is the latest high-performance chassis and is now the standard chassis for Mini-Z RWD cars. The chassis in this car is MR-04N-MM2. This Readyset has the 4th generation MR-04 chassis, first released in 2023. Previous Readyset packages used the 3rd generation MR-03 chassis.
The MR-04 is a major evolution from the previous MR-03. It keeps the best aspects of the MR-03, along with some basic elements of its design. The lower center of gravity of the new MR-04 delivers significant performance improvements. The batteries are mounted lower than on the MR-03, which lowers the center of gravity of the entire chassis. That improves cornering stability and straight-line handling.
In the top-of-the-line EVO2 debut model, the MR-04 showed its lower center of gravity and remodeled steering design. It did so with blistering speed and excellent handling. This Readyset has the same standard MR-04 chassis as other high-end MR-04 cars. High performance comes straight from the standard setup.
Suspension, steering and drivetrain
A new front suspension (No: MZ719) is compatible with zero-offset wheels. New front knuckles with integrated kingpins reduce scrub by 1.5mm on each side compared to the MR-03. The result is sharper and more linear control. Front suspension dynamically aligns the camber angle with movement of the upper arm to maintain optimal tire contact during cornering. A revised caster angle improves steering response. The change to 3mm inner diameter ball bearings reduces rotational resistance.
The rear suspension uses a coil spring damper to cushion shocks from the road surface and improve driving stability. The coil spring damper can be upgraded to an optional oil-filled shock absorber. The T-bar rear suspension plate holds the entire rear pod, including the motor and rear axle. Its flexibility produces excellent suspension effect. Optional parts are also available in FRP and carbon.
All axles have low rotational resistance ball bearings as standard. The same size ball bearings are used front and rear for spare parts efficiency. A geared differential delivers smooth cornering. The car has a user-friendly 130-class brushed motor. The drive type is forward/brake/reverse.
Transmitter and controls
The car uses the Syncro KT-531P R/C system, and its transmitter is ultra reliable and multi-function. The transmitter has a steering wheel that mimics the steering wheel of a real car. It also has a pistol-grip throttle (speed control).
The neutral position of steering and throttle can be adjusted with trims. Steering angle can be adjusted with dual rate adjustment. Training mode, which reduces vehicle speed, is also available and is the default setting. The car is equipped with a radio, receiver, servos and speed control.
Tuning and options
The car is compatible with a wide range of Mini-Z Racer optional parts. You can tune and enhance the car, up to elite-level performance. An optional gyro unit can be fitted for even easier control. Gyro sensitivity is adjusted with the volume on the chassis. Rear tread can be changed by changing the wheel offset.
