Important Install Tips
Before installing the Rear LED, ask yourself: 1. Do I bash my truck so hard the body often comes off the chassis? 2. Am I good with a cordless drill and have 3-4M size drill bits? If yes, mount the rear LED UNDER the bumper, slightly recessed. I did it using thin metal plates with 3M adhesive, like the ones for magnetizing phones to mounts... super cheap on Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CJ453V6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Chose this aluminum bc it's thick enough for abuse but flexible enough not to wreck other parts if hit hard. Used (2) small #6 flat head screws (after drilling holes in the bumper mount), attaching M3 bolts through the light bar mount to a locking nut (so it won't wiggle loose). Then I just used zip ties and electrical tape on the fragile wires that connect the light to the extension harness.
Essential for X-Maxx
This light kit is awesome, super bright, even on a sunny day you can see it no problem. The Bluetooth link app gives you sweet control over the lights, way more than most kits out there. The rear bumper could be improved though. It'd be better if Traxxas made it to fit the light bar like the front one does. Right now, it mounts on the rear cab "window" of the body, which sucks if you bash like you're supposed to. When the body flies off, that thin cable is gonna get yanked out and break. If you're patient and handy w/ a utility knife, you can fit the bar where it looks like it should go, but wasn't finished. I've been using the Traxxas TRX-4 light kit on my crawler, and even though it's not as bright, it's held up well through water, snow, and mud for a year. Also, if you're using the Traxxas Telemetry Expander module for GPS or volt/temp readings, mount the power amp on the steering turnbuckle below where Traxxas suggests. This way, the Expander gets a clear view of the sky.
