More info
The Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer RC Truck is a ready-to-run, pro-scale desert racer designed for drivers who want full-size detail and race-capable performance. It pairs a large replica body and tube-frame styling with VXL-6s waterproof electronics and Velineon brushless power to deliver high top speeds and reliable off-road behavior.
Key Features
- Large Pro-Scale body — full-size replica parts and a heavy-duty truck body that mounts to the chassis in multiple locations for a secure fit.
- Functional tube frame — strong, tubular frame that mimics full-size off-road racers and adds chassis rigidity and scale presence.
- Detailed interior — realistic cabin with driver figures for authentic looks on the trail or at the track.
- Replica braking hardware — brake calipers and discs paired with integrated 17 mm wheel hubs for scale accuracy.
- Working spares — two fully functional spare tires plus a functional spare driveshaft mounted on the rig.
- Scale accessories — molded replica items such as fire extinguishers, shock reservoirs, a jack, and tools add realism to the model.
- Realistic side plates — side panels that attach to the tube frame for a finished, race-ready appearance.
- VXL-6s waterproof ESC — high-current speed control that is compatible with 6S battery packs, includes an integrated cooling fan and a machined heat sink for thermal control.
- Real-time telemetry — ESC provides telemetry via Traxxas Link for tuning and data logging.
- Status and power ports — 3-LED status indicators, powered accessory ports, and heavy 10-gauge silicone wire for reliable power delivery.
- Velineon brushless motor — 4-pole 2200 Kv motor with a 5 mm output shaft and a finned can to help shed heat under hard runs.
- Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) — electronic assist that improves straight-line acceleration and braking on low-traction surfaces while keeping steering composed during throttle-on slides; adjustable from off to full via the transmitter.
- Factory LED light kit — dual bumper light bars (52 LEDs each), curved roof bar (52 LEDs), and a multifunction rear bar with 24 red and 24 amber LEDs; uses a high-voltage 8-channel power amplifier and regulated outputs for steady lighting.
- TQi 2.4 GHz radio system — 2-channel transmitter paired with a 5-channel micro receiver (6533) that includes fail-safe and telemetry ports and a patented waterproof receiver box with easy-access plug.
- Traxxas Link compatible — receiver supports the Traxxas Link Wireless Module (6511, sold separately) and can store settings for up to 30 Traxxas Link–enabled models.
- Adjustable radio controls — steering and throttle sensitivity (exponential) and endpoints can be tuned from the transmitter.
- Composite inverted tub chassis — design lowers the center of gravity for improved handling, simplifies maintenance, and allows easier access to internal components.
- Protective skid plates — tough skid plates shield critical components from hard impacts and rough terrain.
- Integrated tube frame — adds scale appearance and structural support while reinforced bumpers help absorb collisions.
- Hard-mounted ESC battery plugs — plugs are secured to the chassis for consistent power connections.
- Innovative battery compartment — accepts a single 4-cell battery pack or dual 2-cell or 3-cell packs, opens from underneath without removing the body, uses an oversized fixed battery strap to lock packs in place, and includes a separate skid plate to protect batteries.
- All-steel direct drive transmission — steel gears with a Torque-Biasing Center Drive that removes as a single unit for service and uses a fixed-pin gear mesh system.
- Front driveline — steel CV driveshafts with 6 mm stub axles and a heavy-duty splined front driveshaft for reliable power transfer.
- Rear driveline — steel straight axle with a fixed-length steel rear driveshaft and a locked steel spool for predictable rear-end behavior.
- Front differential — oil-filled limited-slip front differential for controlled traction; center is a sealed 4-gear unit, rear is a locked spool.
- Chassis-mounted steering — 2270 metal-gear digital high-torque waterproof servo, dual-bellcrank steering with bearings and an integrated servo saver, plus solid non-adjustable steering links for rugged durability.
- Suspension — independent double-wishbone front suspension with captured rod ends, triangulated 4-link rear with a solid axle, composite trailing arms, steel upper links with three mounting positions for tuning, and eight long-travel aluminum GTR shocks (four include springs and adjustable ride-height collars).
- Sway bars and limit straps — functioning front and rear sway bars and detailed functional limit straps on the rear axle improve handling and articulation control.
- Wheels and tires — replica BFGoodrich KR3 off-road tires mounted on beadlock-style dual-diameter 17 mm wheels.
- Sealed ball bearings — used throughout the drivetrain and suspension for smooth operation under load.
- Hex hardware — rust-resistant black oxide coating on hex hardware for longer life in harsh conditions.

Loads of fun
This is my first real hobby car, unlike those Walmart ones lol. It's great, but when it arrived, a screw fell out of the car! I couldn't figure out where it came from, so I contacted Traxxas. I might have to return it bc I don't have the space or skills to take it apart and find where that screw goes. They're helping me sort it out. Don't forget to buy batteries! I've driven it twice and felt like a kid again. Even my usually bored girlfriend tried it and was grinning ear to ear at the speed. Another update: drove it again, and I think the gear blew, bc when I hit the gas, it just revs. I've only used it three times in a 60x50 area.
Fantastic RC
Awesome RC! My son loved customizing his truck. There are some weak spots, but once you make it tough, it's incredibly fun. Highly recommended!
Great realism, not a basher
The scale realism of this truck is awesome, but it's def not a basher. If you're after that, look elsewhere. The weak points are the plastic hex hubs, and when you switch to aluminum, the pins can shear off and jam. The swing arms flex but break easily too, and with aluminum links, the rear axle housing gets weak. Front lower A-arms are designed well, but they can break, and if you go with aluminum A-arms, then the pin pocket in the chassis weakens. It's durable if you don't bash or roll it. One wrong turn and a barrel roll can easily bend or break drag links. To make it really tough, expect to spend as much on upgrades as you did on the truck.
