Buy Shims!
Grab some RC18T shims, seriously. I got the Team Associated part #21141 and it makes these last at least twice as long, maybe more, haven't had to replace any since adding them. Traxxas really should be including shims or at least offering them. Huge improvement for sure. The gears themselves are pretty decent.
