More info
This rear differential gear set gives Traxxas Slash 4x4, Rustler 4x4, Stampede 4x4, and 4-Tec 2 owners a machined-steel ring and pinion pairing cut from solid steel stock on a CNC machine. Instead of straight-cut teeth, Traxxas machines these gears with a spiral pattern, and that spiral cut keeps more tooth surface in contact with the mating gear at any given moment than a straight-cut design does. That extra contact area spreads out the load and helps cut down on backlash, the small amount of play you feel between gear teeth when power reverses direction.
These gears cannot be used with the older TRA6879 gear set — that's a straightforward compatibility limit worth knowing before you order. This spiral-cut version and the earlier TRA6879 gears are separate designs, so the two are not interchangeable.
Key Features
- Ring and pinion gears are machined from a solid block of steel rather than stamped or cast, giving them a tighter, more consistent tooth profile.
- Spiral-cut teeth put more tooth surface in contact between the ring and pinion than a straight-cut gear design.
- Rear-differential application, sized and cut specifically for that position in the drivetrain.
- Cannot be used with the older TRA6879 gear set.
Compatible Platforms
- Traxxas Slash 4x4
- Traxxas Rustler 4x4
- Traxxas Stampede 4x4
- Traxxas 4-Tec 2
In the rear differential of any of these Traxxas platforms, the ring and pinion pair carries the load every time power reverses direction, and the spiral-cut tooth design is what changes how these gears behave compared to a basic straight-cut gear, since the added contact area spreads force across more of each tooth. The ring gear has 37 teeth and the pinion has 13, machined together as a matched set. Keep the TRA6879 note in mind so you pair this gear set with the right differential internals from the start.
