More info
Kyosho's 1957 Chevy Bel Air Coupe in Tropical Turquoise is a 1:10 scale, electric powered, radio controlled 4WD car. This readyset model is built on the FAZER Mk2 FZ02L chassis. The package comes fully assembled at the factory. The chassis is a new design: a shaft drive, full-time four-wheel-drive touring chassis (FZ02).
The car
The Chevy Bel Air is a 2-door sports coupe named after the luxury residential area of Los Angeles. Models sold from 1953 to 1957 are the most popular among the first generation Bel Air series. They have an imposing body form with large tail fins.
The finished body has Ultra Scale Body detailing that replicates the fine details of the actual car. Kyosho took a step further in scale realism. Vintage Touring Car (VTC) tires and Rostyle type wheels match the vintage car style.
Chassis and drivetrain
Kyosho took its standard touring car chassis and gave it a full model makeover. Performance has evolved to a new level. A simplified design with fewer parts reduces weight and improves maintenance efficiency. New materials, plus ribbing and stiffeners on front and rear, increase core strength and rigidity.
The completely new chassis has a low center of gravity and a simple, functional design. An integrated gearbox optimizes torsional rigidity of the main chassis. The nylon material reduces weight while improving impact resistance. Each key component is reinforced, and the design has no upper deck. High durability and impact resistance let drivers unleash the full potential of the chassis. The symmetrical chassis design gives excellent front-rear balance through the suspension, with responsive control, irrespective of power source.
The car has a slipper clutch. Front and rear gear differentials are 2-bevel and grease-filled. Full ball bearings throughout the drive system reduce drive loss. Large size dog bones and cup joints give superior reliability and durability. The differential and transmission are sealed, so they perform reliably even on dusty parking lot surfaces.
The car runs on coil-over oil shocks. The oil shocks are newly designed and mark an evolutionary step up from previous models. Optimal front-rear geometry and balance give both light handling and precise control. Bump steer and scrub radius are optimized on the front suspension. A simple ball-connected steering knuckle promises reliable control movement. Hub carriers are interchangeable front to rear and left to right, which improves spare parts utilization and maintenance efficiency.
A belt mounting battery compartment lets you use various battery types. The steering servo is a KS202W and is waterproof. The design uses fewer screws and parts, and frequently used screws share the same size. Most screws are flat head screws that a 2.0mm hex wrench removes for easy disassembly.
Setup and upgrades
The standard spur and pinion gear setting is 68T and 32T. Nine pinion gear settings from 29T to 37T give a wide range of gear ratio settings. The new fixed gear mesh motor mount has holes for each different pinion gear. Mount the motor directly in the hole that matches the pinion gear. No gear mesh adjustment is necessary.
Replacing some parts, sold separately, adjusts the wheelbase to 260mm for compatibility with other 1/10 scale body styles. The front and rear light buckets are compatible with the separately sold 97054 LED light unit series. Installing the LED light unit transforms it into a body full of real car feeling. Performance can be further enhanced by installing various optional parts.
