More info
The Traxxas TRX-4M Ford F-150 High Trail Edition is a 1/18-scale trail crawler on the TRX-4M platform. Its body is an officially licensed 1979 Ford F-150 clipless truck body. Traxxas rates the truck at skill level 1, which suits beginners getting into crawling.
Body
The body is a highly detailed ABS hard body. Its molded-in color won't chip or flake. Tough fender flares and rock sliders add to the truck look.
Realistic side mirrors, door handles, a roll bar and wipers finish the details, and the truck also has LED headlights. Heavy-duty latching clips hold the body tightly on the trail and release in just seconds.
Frame and suspension
The chassis rides on an extended heavy-duty steel ladder frame with a deep C-channel design. A thicker center section gives it maximum rigidity. Rails run from bumper to bumper.
A low-CG battery tray concentrates weight lower for improved stability. The tray also has a wide rubber strap that secures the battery in place.
The Lifted High Trail suspension has revised shock towers and a triangulated 4 link layout front and rear. Heavy-duty rod ends complete the linkage.
Oil-filled GTM shocks provide smooth controlled damping and realistic driving body movements. Adjustable pre-load spacers sit on the shocks. Available rebuild kits make them easy to refresh.
The truck has low-maintenance self-lubricating bushings and also uses durable hex hardware.
Motor and driveline
The motor is the Titan 180 87-turn brushed motor. It weighs 1.16 ounces (33 g), measures 1.66 inches (42 mm) long and has a diameter of .81 inches (21 mm). Its fixed gear mesh doesn't require adjustment. A forward mounting position gives improved crawling dynamics.
Power goes through full-time shaft-driven 4-wheel drive with a single speed direct drive transmission. Locked spools act as the differentials on the front and rear axles. The internal gear ratio is 11.38, and the gear pitch is 64 pitch.
Solid steel axles and heavy-duty CV center driveshafts complete the driveline.
Steering, wheels and tires
Steering comes from a heavy-duty 2065T servo with a metal main gear. The steering angle is a superior 45°. Steering is direct, with no servo saver.
The truck rolls on 1″ replica slotted chrome mag wheels with a 7 mm hex. Pre-mounted Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS tires use a trail-tuned rubber compound.
Electronics and radio
The ECM-2.5 Electronic Control Module is a brushed unit. Case dimensions are 1.79 inches (45 mm) x 1.26 inches (32 mm) x 0.6 inches (15 mm). The unit weighs .92 ounces (26 g).
The module combines the ESC, receiver and LED controller in one chassis. It is fully waterproof for all-weather fun.
The module offers three drive profiles:
- Sport Mode: forward / brake / reverse
- Trail Mode: forward / brake / reverse, with trail-tuned drag brake in neutral
- Crawl Mode: forward / instant reverse, no neutral, with 100% hill holding brake
The module also has Traxxas EZ-Set one-button setup and built-in Pro Scale LED functionality. Two stage low voltage protection (LVD) and motor overload protection are built in as well.
The radio system is a TQ 2.4 GHz 2-channel transmitter. Full-size and comfortable all day, the transmitter gives precise long-range control.
